Detailed information

Product detailed description

All-Season Merino Wool Sleeping Bag 70 cm for a Growing Baby

Has your baby grown and their first sleeping bag is starting to feel too short? The 70 cm Merino wool sleeping bag provides more room for little legs while maintaining the familiar sleeping environment your child has become used to.

The inner layer is made from soft Merino wool knit, which naturally helps manage moisture and regulate thermal comfort during sleep. The outer layer is made from 100% cotton in a neutral grey shade with a playful sheep print.

With a TOG rating of 0.67, this is one of our lighter all-season sleeping bags. We recommend it for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C. Always adjust the clothing worn underneath according to the actual room temperature and your child's individual needs.

When should you move to a 70 cm sleeping bag?

There is no need to move to a larger size simply because your child has reached a certain age. It is more important to look at how their current sleeping bag actually fits.

If there is no longer enough room at the bottom for your child to comfortably stretch and bend their legs, it may be time to consider the next size. On the other hand, it is not advisable to buy a sleeping bag with too much extra room – the upper part should fit properly around the neck and armholes.

Simply explained: Merino helps manage changes throughout the night

Your child's body temperature and sleeping environment do not remain exactly the same throughout the night. Children move, may become warmer and naturally produce moisture while sleeping.

This is where the properties of Merino wool are particularly useful. Its fibres can manage moisture and help create a comfortable microclimate around the body. We therefore see Merino not simply as a material for warmth, but as a functional natural layer that is well suited to sleep.

  • helps regulate thermal comfort,
  • helps manage excess moisture,
  • is breathable,
  • the soft knit feels pleasant to the touch,
  • naturally helps reduce the build-up of unpleasant odours.

How to choose the right 70 cm sleeping bag

The 70 cm measurement refers to the length of the sleeping bag, not the height of your child. When choosing the correct size, we recommend measuring your child from the shoulders to the feet, as the head remains outside the sleeping bag.

There should be enough room at the bottom for natural leg movement. At the same time, check that the neckline and armholes are not too large.

For detailed measuring instructions and recommendations for individual sizes, see our guide on how to choose the right sleeping bag size.

Our experience from making sleeping bags: the right size matters more than room to grow for years

Parents often ask us whether it is better to choose a much larger sleeping bag so that their child can use it for longer. Some extra room for the legs is of course desirable, but a sleeping bag should not be significantly larger than your child currently needs.

This is why we make this model in several consecutive lengths. Your child can move to the next size as they grow without the need to buy an excessively large sleeping bag in advance.

From 60 to 100 cm – a sleeping bag that grows with your child

The Grey Sheep design is available in 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 cm lengths. If your child enjoys sleeping in this material and style of sleeping bag, you can simply move on to the next size as they grow.

From our experience, children who have slept in a sleeping bag from an early age sometimes do not want to give it up even when they are older. For selected models, we can therefore also make 140 cm and 150 cm sleeping bags to order.

All-season sleeping bag with TOG 0.67

TOG provides a useful way to compare the approximate thermal insulation of different sleeping bags. This model has a TOG rating of 0.67 and is recommended for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C.

However, the TOG rating is not the only factor to consider. The clothing worn underneath, the actual room temperature and whether your child naturally tends to feel warmer or cooler should also be taken into account.

Why is a sleeping bag practical for a growing baby?

As children grow, they often become increasingly active during sleep. A traditional blanket can quickly end up beside them rather than over them. A sleeping bag moves with your child and provides a consistent layer throughout the night.

The roomy lower section still allows your child to change position naturally, bend their knees and move their legs comfortably.

Practical two-way zipper

The two-way zipper allows the sleeping bag to be opened from either direction, making dressing and everyday handling easier. On the front, the zipper is covered by a fabric flap.

How to care for a Merino wool sleeping bag

Merino does not need to be washed after every night. If the sleeping bag is not dirty, thorough airing is often enough. This is also gentler on the material and helps extend the life of the product.

When washing is necessary, use a wool programme at a maximum of 30 °C, a detergent suitable for wool and a low spin speed. Do not use fabric softener and always follow the care instructions on the product label.

Frequently asked questions about the 70 cm Merino sleeping bag

Who is a 70 cm sleeping bag suitable for?

We recommend choosing the size according to your child's shoulder-to-feet measurement and how the sleeping bag fits around the upper body. Age should only be used as a general guide.

How do I know when it is time to move from 60 cm to 70 cm?

If your child no longer has enough room to comfortably stretch and move their legs in the current sleeping bag, it may be time to consider the next length. The new size should still fit properly around the neckline and armholes and should not be excessively loose.

Is the 70 cm Merino sleeping bag suitable for year-round use?

This model has a TOG rating of 0.67 and is recommended for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C. Suitability also depends on the clothing worn underneath and your child's individual thermal comfort.

Does Merino need to be washed frequently?

No. If the sleeping bag is not dirty, airing is often sufficient. When washing is necessary, use a wool programme at a maximum of 30 °C, a suitable wool detergent and a low spin speed. Do not use fabric softener.

What other Grey Sheep sizes are available?

This model is available in 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 cm lengths. Selected sleeping bags can also be made to order in 140 cm and 150 cm lengths.
