When warm summer days and nights arrive, a regular duvet can feel unnecessarily warm. But sleeping completely uncovered is not comfortable for everyone – and the same applies to children. This is when a lightweight summer blanket comes in handy.
But which material should you choose? Muslin, classic cotton, organic cotton, or a cotton and bamboo combination?
Each of these materials feels a little different. Some blankets are extremely light and ideal mainly for hot summer weather, while others feel more substantial and can be used from spring through to autumn.
Let’s look at the differences from a practical point of view.

Simply explained: one summer blanket does not suit everyone
Think about summer clothing. Sometimes you want the lightest possible T-shirt for a very hot day, while at other times you want something a little more substantial for a cooler evening.
Summer blankets work in much the same way.
Muslin and lightweight cotton blankets are like airy summer clothing – light and comfortable mainly in warm weather.
Bamboo and organic cotton blankets feel slightly different. They are still lightweight blankets, but because of their construction we like using them not only in summer, but also in spring and early autumn.
That is why we do not think it makes much sense to look for the “best summer blanket”. A more useful question is:
When and where will I use it?
Muslin blanket – lightweight, soft and airy
Muslin is a material that naturally works well in summer.
For our blankets, we use 100% cotton double-layer muslin. At first glance it may look like a single fabric, but when viewed closely, you can see that it consists of two fine layers joined together.
This makes the blanket very lightweight, soft, airy and absorbent. It is a particularly good choice if you are looking for a truly light cover for summer.
It can be used in a cot, stroller, while travelling or simply for relaxing on warm summer days.
Our standard muslin blanket size is 100 × 130 cm. We can also sew larger sizes for adults to order.
Lightweight cotton blanket – a simple summer classic
Cotton does not always mean the same type of fabric. The way it is knitted or woven and its fabric weight both make a difference.
Our lightweight cotton summer blankets are made from cotton jersey with a fabric weight of approximately 160 g/m².
The result is a light blanket which, just like muslin, we would recommend mainly for warmer weather.
It is comfortable for both children and adults and is a good choice for anyone looking for a lightweight natural blanket without extra insulation.
Organic cotton blanket – firmer and warmer to the touch
At first glance, a cotton and an organic cotton blanket may seem almost identical. In our range, however, there is a noticeable difference.
It is not only about the difference between conventional cotton and cotton from organic farming. The fabrics themselves are also different.
Our organic cotton blankets are made from jersey with a fabric weight of approximately 210 g/m², while the lightweight cotton version is approximately 160 g/m².
The organic cotton blanket therefore feels firmer, more substantial and slightly warmer. In our experience, it works well not only in summer, but also during spring and autumn.
If you want the lightest possible blanket for hot weather, we would choose lightweight cotton or muslin. If you are looking for a more versatile lightweight blanket for a larger part of the year, organic cotton may be the better choice.
Our cotton and organic cotton blankets are available in several sizes – from small children's blankets measuring 70 × 100 cm, through 100 × 150 cm, up to large blankets measuring 150 × 200 cm.
Bamboo blanket – soft and pleasantly cool to the touch
Bamboo is one of those materials that feels especially pleasant from the very first touch.
Our current blankets combine two sides – a soft knitted cotton fabric and a soft knitted bamboo viscose fabric.
The bamboo side has one characteristic that is easy to notice: it feels pleasantly cool to the touch.
That is why we enjoy using bamboo blankets in summer. At the same time, they are not extremely thin blankets designed only for the hottest weather. We personally like using them in spring and autumn as well.
Our cotton and bamboo blankets are available, for example, in a children's size of 70 × 100 cm and a larger size of 100 × 150 cm.
Muslin vs. bamboo: what is the main difference?
This is one of those questions where there is no universal winner.
We would choose muslin if you want a truly light, airy and soft summer blanket.
We would choose bamboo if softness and a pleasantly cool feel against the skin are especially important to you, and if you want to use the blanket beyond the hottest part of summer.
Both can be the right choice – they simply suit slightly different situations.
Quick comparison of summer blankets
| Material | How it feels | Character | When we like using it most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muslin | Soft, airy | Very lightweight | Mainly summer and hot weather |
| Cotton 160 g/m² | Soft, pleasant | Lightweight | Mainly summer |
| Bamboo + cotton | Very soft, bamboo side feels cool to the touch | Lightweight but still feels like a proper blanket | Summer, spring and autumn |
| Organic cotton 210 g/m² | Firmer, natural feel | More substantial and slightly warmer | Summer and transitional seasons |
Our experience from production
When we first started making summer blankets, we mainly made them for children.
Over time, however, something interesting began to happen. Mothers started asking whether we could make the same blankets in larger sizes for them too. Then came requests for blankets for older children, and eventually for full-size adult blankets as well.
We completely understand why.
In summer, it is simply very comfortable to sleep under a lightweight blanket.
You still have the reassuring feeling of being covered, without having to use a thicker standard duvet.
If we had to choose purely by feel, our personal favourites are bamboo and organic cotton blankets. We like bamboo for its softness and cool feel, while organic cotton has a firmer, more natural character.
For genuinely hot weather, however, we would reach for muslin or lightweight cotton.
How to choose a summer blanket by situation
I want the lightest possible blanket for hot summer weather
Take a look mainly at a muslin or lightweight cotton blanket.
I want a soft blanket that feels pleasantly cool
We would choose a cotton and bamboo blanket.
I want a firmer natural blanket for spring and autumn too
In this case, we would look at an organic cotton blanket.
I mainly want a blanket for my baby and stroller
A smaller children's size of around 70 × 100 cm is practical. If you want more room or would also like to use the blanket in a cot, you can choose a larger size.
I want a summer blanket for an adult
Lightweight blankets are no longer just for children. Our cotton and organic cotton versions are also available in 150 × 200 cm, and for some other materials we offer or can sew larger sizes to order.
What about sleeping? A blanket or a summer sleeping bag?
We use the same types of materials for our summer blankets and for our summer sleeping bags.
You will find cotton, organic cotton, bamboo and muslin among them.
A sleeping bag can be especially practical for children who tend to kick off their covers during sleep. A blanket is more versatile – you can use it in a stroller, during naps, while travelling and later for an older child as well.
There is also another option we particularly like: with some designs, you can match the summer blanket and sleeping bag in the same material and pattern.
This creates a practical matching set for the cot or a lovely gift for a baby.
So which summer blanket should you choose?
There is no need to look for one material that is best for everyone.
If you want the lightest possible cover for hot summer weather, take a look at muslin or lightweight cotton.
If you love very soft materials and a cool feeling to the touch, bamboo may be the option that appeals to you most.
And if you want a firmer lightweight blanket that can also be used in spring and autumn, organic cotton may suit you better.
The most important thing is to choose according to where, when and by whom the blanket will be used.
You can find all our options in the summer blankets category.
Frequently asked questions
Is bamboo or muslin better for summer?
It depends on what you expect from the blanket. Muslin is very lightweight, soft and airy, so we would choose it mainly for warm summer weather. The bamboo side of our blankets feels very soft and pleasantly cool to the touch, and we also like using these blankets in spring and autumn.
What is the difference between a cotton and organic cotton blanket?
In our blankets, the difference is not only the origin of the cotton, but also the fabric weight and overall feel. The lightweight cotton blanket is approximately 160 g/m², while the organic cotton jersey is approximately 210 g/m². The organic cotton version therefore feels firmer and slightly warmer.
What size summer blanket should I choose?
For babies and strollers, smaller sizes such as 70 × 100 cm are practical. Larger children's blankets around 100 × 130 or 100 × 150 cm give more room and can be used for longer. We also make large adult versions, for example 150 × 200 cm.
Can a summer blanket also be used in spring and autumn?
Yes. It depends on the specific material and temperature. From our range, we would choose cotton and bamboo blankets or firmer organic cotton blankets for broader use throughout spring, summer and early autumn.
Do you make sleeping bags from the same materials?
Yes. We also use cotton, organic cotton, bamboo and muslin in our summer sleeping bags. With some designs, you can match the sleeping bag with a blanket in the same pattern.
