A baby does not lie flat in a car seat. The seat has a specific reclined shape and the safety harness runs around the baby's body. That is why we designed our small footmuff to follow the natural contours of an infant car seat, helping to reduce unnecessary bunching around the baby's waist.

One of the most practical features of our small car seat footmuff becomes apparent as the weather changes.
The top section of the footmuff can be removed.
On cold winter days, you can use the complete footmuff. When less insulation is needed, simply remove the top section and the soft merino seat liner remains in the car seat.
This means that one product can accompany your baby through different weather conditions instead of being put away as soon as the coldest part of winter is over.

What is inside a merino footmuff?
Our footmuff consists of several layers, each with a different purpose.
The durable outer fabric helps protect against wind and winter moisture.
The insulating layer helps retain warmth.
And closest to your baby is soft merino wool, creating a warm and comfortable surface.
It is important to point out that this is not a sheepskin pelt. We use shorn mulesing-free sheep's wool that is incorporated into a textile backing.
Why do we use merino wool?
One of the reasons we like merino wool is its natural ability to work with both temperature and moisture.
This is particularly useful during winter journeys with a baby. It may be freezing outside, while the inside of the car gradually becomes warmer after you start driving. The conditions around your baby can therefore change considerably during a single journey.
Natural wool can absorb moisture while remaining pleasant to the touch. This is why we use it when we want to combine thermal comfort with the breathability of a natural material.
Our manufacturing experience
When designing the small footmuff, we did not simply take our large stroller footmuff and make a smaller copy.
An infant car seat has a different shape and recline, and a baby lies differently in it than in a stroller. That is why the small footmuff has a contoured design that better follows the natural shape of the seat.
Details like these are not always obvious in a product photo. In everyday use, however, they can make a noticeable difference to how naturally the footmuff sits in the car seat and how much material gathers around the baby.
When is a small car seat footmuff most useful?
Imagine a completely ordinary winter day.
It is below freezing in the morning. The car is cold and you need to take your baby to the doctor. Later in the day the sun comes out and the inside of the car becomes much warmer.
This is where the 2-in-1 design becomes particularly practical. Depending on the weather and temperature, you can use the complete winter footmuff or remove the top section and use the merino liner underneath.
Car seat footmuffs and safety harnesses
Your baby's safety while travelling depends on the correct use of the car seat and its safety harness. A footmuff does not replace these safety features and must not prevent the harness from being correctly positioned and tightened according to the car seat manufacturer's instructions.
After placing your baby in the car seat, always check that the harness is correctly positioned, is not twisted and can be properly tightened. The purpose of the footmuff is to provide thermal comfort – the safety function is provided by the car seat and its correctly fastened restraint system.

The answer mainly depends on where you plan to use it.
