Detailed information

Product detailed description

All-Season Merino Wool Sleeping Bag 90 cm for Older Children

A sleeping bag does not have to be just for the first months of a child's life. Children who have been used to sleeping in one since they were babies often enjoy continuing to use it as they grow. The 90 cm Merino wool sleeping bag is designed for older children who have outgrown the smaller sizes but do not want to give up their familiar way of sleeping.

The inner layer is made from soft Merino wool knit, which helps manage moisture and regulate thermal comfort throughout the night. The outer layer is made from 100% cotton in a neutral grey shade with a playful sheep print.

With a TOG rating of 0.67, this model is one of our lighter all-season sleeping bags. We recommend it for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C. Always adjust the clothing worn underneath according to the actual bedroom temperature and your child's individual needs.

Why do some older children still want to sleep in a sleeping bag?

A sleeping bag can become part of a familiar bedtime routine. Your child puts on their pyjamas, gets into their sleeping bag and knows that bedtime is approaching. If they have slept this way since they were little, it is perfectly natural that they may not want to give it up simply because they have grown.

This is why we make our sleeping bags in larger sizes too. Children can continue sleeping in the way they are used to, without having to switch to a traditional blanket before they are ready.

Simply explained: Merino is not just for winter

Merino wool is often associated mainly with winter and warmth. However, its benefits go beyond simply keeping the body warm. Merino fibres can manage moisture and help create a comfortable microclimate around the body.

That is why we also use soft Merino wool knit in this lighter all-season sleeping bag. The result is not a thick winter sleeping bag, but a breathable layer that helps maintain comfortable thermal conditions during sleep.

  • helps regulate thermal comfort,
  • helps manage excess moisture,
  • is breathable,
  • the soft knit feels pleasant to the touch,
  • naturally helps reduce the build-up of unpleasant odours.

How to choose the right 90 cm sleeping bag size

The 90 cm measurement refers to the length of the sleeping bag itself, not the height of your child. When choosing the correct size, we recommend measuring your child from the shoulders to the feet. The head, of course, remains outside the sleeping bag.

There should be enough room at the bottom for your child to comfortably stretch and bend their legs. At the same time, the sleeping bag should not be too loose around the neckline or armholes.

For detailed measuring instructions, see our guide on how to choose the right sleeping bag size, where we explain the differences between individual lengths.

Our experience from making sleeping bags: children simply outgrow their favourite sleeping bag

With larger sizes, we often hear a different reason for buying a sleeping bag than we do with baby sizes. Parents frequently tell us that their child has slept in a sleeping bag since they were little and simply does not want to sleep in anything else.

That is why we gradually extended our range up to 100 cm. And because even that is not enough for some children, selected models can also be made as 140 cm and 150 cm sleeping bags to order.

From 60 to 100 cm – Grey Sheep can grow with your child

The Grey Sheep design is available in 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 cm lengths. Your child can gradually move on to the next size while keeping the same familiar material, design and style of sleeping bag.

However, we do not recommend choosing a very large size too far in advance. A sleeping bag should provide plenty of room for the legs while still fitting correctly around the upper body.

A sleeping bag instead of constantly replacing the blanket

Older children can be very active sleepers. A blanket may end up around their feet, beside the bed or on the other side of the cot. A sleeping bag, on the other hand, moves together with the child.

The roomy lower section allows your child to change position, bend their knees and stretch comfortably without needing to be covered again during the night.

TOG 0.67 – a lighter all-season option

The TOG rating provides a useful way to compare the thermal insulation of different sleeping bags. This model has a TOG rating of 0.67 and is recommended for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C.

However, TOG is not the only factor to consider. The clothing worn underneath, the actual room temperature and whether your child naturally tends to feel warmer or cooler should also be taken into account.

Practical two-way zipper

The two-way zipper can be opened from either direction, making dressing and everyday handling easier. On the front, the zipper is covered by a fabric flap.

How to care for a Merino wool sleeping bag

Merino does not need to be washed after every night. If the sleeping bag is not dirty, thorough airing is often sufficient. Washing less frequently is also gentler on the material.

When washing is necessary, choose a wool programme at a maximum of 30 °C, use a low spin speed and a detergent suitable for wool. Do not use fabric softener and avoid sudden changes in water temperature.

For more advice, see our guide on how to wash Merino wool correctly, where we explain washing, drying and everyday care for Merino products.

Frequently asked questions about the 90 cm Merino sleeping bag

Who is a 90 cm sleeping bag suitable for?

We recommend choosing the size according to your child's actual measurements rather than age alone. Measure your child from the shoulders to the feet and allow an appropriate amount of extra room for comfortable leg movement.

Can an older child still sleep in a sleeping bag?

Yes. If your child is comfortable in a sleeping bag and the correct size is chosen, there is no need to switch to a traditional blanket simply because of age. Many children have been used to sleeping in a sleeping bag since they were babies.

Is Merino suitable outside the winter season?

Yes. Merino is not only a material for winter products. It helps manage moisture and regulate thermal comfort. This particular sleeping bag has a TOG rating of 0.67 and is recommended for room temperatures of approximately 19–25 °C.

What if my child outgrows the 100 cm sleeping bag?

For selected models, we can also make 140 cm and 150 cm sleeping bags to order. This option is particularly useful for children who are used to sleeping in a sleeping bag and want to continue using one as they grow.

What other Grey Sheep sizes are available?

This model is available in 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 cm lengths.

Where is the sleeping bag made?

Our sleeping bags are designed and made in the Czech Republic.
