Warmth for shared winter walks

Imagine a frosty winter morning. Your baby is sleeping peacefully in the stroller, surrounded by soft merino wool, while you enjoy a quiet walk without constantly adjusting several blankets. These are exactly the moments for which we designed our beige extendable merino stroller footmuff.

The durable outer fabric helps protect against wind and winter moisture, the insulating filling retains warmth and the fluffy merino wool lining creates a soft and cosy environment. The neutral beige shade is easy to combine with different stroller colours and may appear slightly golden in sunlight.

An extendable footmuff from newborn to toddler

Without the lower extension, the footmuff measures approximately 50 × 90 cm and is suitable for a baby in a carrycot. As your child grows, the removable lower section can be attached using zips, extending the footmuff to approximately 50 × 115 cm.

The extended version can also be used in a pushchair, usually until approximately three years of age. Universal openings allow the stroller harness straps to pass through the footmuff.

Simply explained: why merino wool?

Fluffy merino wool works like a natural insulating layer. Air remains trapped between its fibres, helping to retain comfortable warmth around your baby. Wool can also absorb moisture, supporting a pleasant environment during longer winter walks.

Temperature-regulating properties do not mean that a child cannot become too warm. The clothing worn underneath the footmuff should always be adjusted according to the outdoor temperature, wind and whether the child is sleeping or moving more actively.

Our manufacturing experience

With a winter footmuff, the thickest possible filling is not necessarily the most practical choice. What matters is how the individual layers work together without making the footmuff unnecessarily heavy or stiff.

We therefore combine a water-resistant outer fabric, an insulating filling and fluffy merino wool knitted onto a textile backing. The footmuff does not contain animal hide or genuine sheepskin. The wool is obtained by shearing sheep.

When selecting the materials, we were not aiming for the highest possible waterproof rating at any cost. Our outer fabric has a 600 mm / 24-hour waterproof rating, which, after years of manufacturing experience, we have found to be an excellent balance between protection from moisture and breathability.

The footmuff is designed primarily for use in a stroller, where your child is protected not only by the outer fabric but also by the stroller canopy. It provides reliable protection during snowfall and light to moderate rain on everyday walks. However, it is not intended as outdoor equipment for extreme weather conditions.

A higher waterproof rating often comes at the expense of breathability. That is why we chose a material that helps keep moisture out while still allowing the fabric to breathe, creating a more comfortable environment inside the footmuff.

Caring for fluffy merino wool

Fluffy merino wool may release a small amount of loose fibre, especially when it is new. This is a natural characteristic of the material and is not considered a defect. Loose fibres can be carefully removed using a vacuum cleaner set to low suction.

Wash the footmuff only when it is genuinely necessary. Always follow the care instructions on the product, use a detergent intended for wool and do not add fabric softener. Merino wool is sensitive to sudden temperature changes, strong friction and unsuitable drying methods.

Frequently asked questions

Is the footmuff suitable for both carrycots and pushchairs?

Yes. The shorter version can be used in a carrycot and, once the lower extension is attached, the footmuff is also suitable for a pushchair. Before purchasing, we recommend comparing its dimensions with the interior of your stroller and checking the position of the harness straps.

Until what age can the footmuff be used?

Thanks to the removable extension, it can usually be used from birth until approximately three years of age. The exact period also depends on the child's height and the size of the stroller.

Is the lining made from genuine sheepskin?

No. We use natural sheep's wool knitted onto a textile backing. The footmuff does not contain animal hide or genuine sheepskin.

How can I tell whether my baby is too warm?

Check the temperature at the back of the neck or on the chest. The skin should feel comfortably warm, but not sweaty. Cold hands alone are not a reliable indication of your baby's overall thermal comfort.

Does the footmuff need to be washed frequently?

No. During normal use, airing the footmuff thoroughly is often sufficient. We recommend washing it only when genuinely necessary and always following the care instructions precisely.
