Fluffy merino wool is a premium natural material – it’s warm, breathable, and incredibly soft. We use it in our footmuffs, blankets, hand muffs and reversible stroller liners. In this article, you’ll learn why fluffy merino may shed initially, how to test for genuine wool, and how to care for it so it lasts for years.
1. Shedding is not a defect
Fluffy merino is naturally soft and airy. During the first weeks of use, it may shed some fibers – especially with movement or friction (like in strollers or hand muffs). This is completely normal:
- ✅ These are loose surface fibers, not damage
- ✅ Simply vacuum the product gently to remove excess fluff
- ✅ Over time, the fibers mesh together and shedding stops
2. Is it real merino? Try the fire test
Some products on the market claim to be merino but actually contain a high percentage of polyester. Here’s how to spot real wool:
👉 Take a few fibers and burn them with a lighter:
- ✅ If it turns to soft grey ash that crumbles easily – it’s real wool
- ❌ If it forms hard black beads that don’t break – it contains polyester
Our fluffy merino is made from 100% pure wool, mulesing-free and free from synthetic blends.
3. How to properly wash fluffy merino
The biggest enemy of wool is thermal shock – never use hot water or place it on a radiator. Always wash and dry it gently.
🧼 Gentle hand-wash instructions
- Fill a bathtub with cold water and add wool-safe detergent or balm
- Unzip or open the merino side of the item and soak for 30 minutes
- Gently press and swish by hand, then rinse with clean cold water
- Let the item sit and drain lying flat – do not wring or squeeze
- Lay the item flat on a drying rack or board and let it air dry slowly
💡 Tips from our customers:
